Create Your Skillsheet
Overview
Your skillsheet is your verified professional profile on the platform. Creating one takes just a few minutes and involves signing in, entering your details, choosing a unique profile name, and uploading your resume. Once your skillsheet is set up, you are ready to take your AI interview.
Step 1: Sign In with Your Email
Skillsheet uses a magic link sign-in system, which means there are no passwords to create or remember.
- Go to the Skillsheet website and click Sign In.
- Enter your email address.
- Check your inbox for an email from Skillsheet. It will contain a one-time sign-in link.
- Click the link in the email to be signed in automatically.
Tips for sign-in:
- The magic link expires after a short time. If it has expired, request a new one.
- Check your spam or junk folder if you do not see the email within a minute or two.
- Use the same email address every time you sign in — your account is tied to that address.
Step 2: Enter Your Name
After signing in for the first time, you will be prompted to enter your full name. This is the name that will appear on your public skillsheet.
- Enter your first name and last name.
- Use your real, professional name — this is what recruiters will see.
Step 3: Choose Your Skillsheet Name
Your skillsheet name determines your unique public URL. For example, if you choose john-doe, your profile will be available at:
skillsheet.me/skillsheets/john-doe
Guidelines for choosing a skillsheet name:
- Use lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only.
- Keep it professional and recognizable — your real name is usually the best choice.
- Choose something easy to share verbally (for example, in networking conversations).
- Skillsheet names are first-come, first-served. If your name is taken, try adding a middle initial or number (e.g.,
john-m-doeorjohn-doe-dev).
Step 4: Upload Your Resume
Your resume is a critical part of the skillsheet creation process. The AI uses it to personalize your interview questions, so a complete and accurate resume leads to a better interview experience.
- Click the Upload Resume button.
- Select your resume file from your computer.
- Accepted formats are PDF (.pdf) and Word (.docx).
- Wait for the upload and parsing to complete. You will see a confirmation when it is done.
The platform automatically extracts key information from your resume, including:
- Work experience and job titles
- Skills and technologies
- Education and certifications
- Projects and achievements
Tips for a Good Resume
To get the most out of the AI interview, make sure your resume is:
- Up to date — Include your most recent roles, skills, and accomplishments.
- Detailed on skills — List specific technologies, tools, and methodologies you have used.
- Clear on experience — Include company names, job titles, dates, and brief descriptions of your responsibilities and achievements.
- Well formatted — Use standard resume formatting so the parser can accurately extract your information. Avoid heavy use of tables, images, or unusual layouts.
- Honest — The AI interview will ask follow-up questions based on your resume. Inaccurate claims will be difficult to support during the interview.
Supported File Formats
| Format | Extension | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Recommended. Most reliable for parsing. | ||
| Microsoft Word | .docx | Also well supported. Avoid older .doc format. |
What Happens After Creation
Once you have completed these steps, your skillsheet profile is created but not yet complete. Here is what happens next:
- Profile is in draft state — Your skillsheet exists but does not yet have interview results.
- Resume is parsed — The platform analyzes your resume to prepare personalized interview questions.
- Interview becomes available — You can now start your AI video interview whenever you are ready.
You do not need to take the interview immediately. You can come back to it at any time by signing in and navigating to your skillsheet.
Common Questions
Can I edit my skillsheet name later?
Your skillsheet name is part of your public URL, so changing it may break any links you have already shared. Choose carefully during setup.
Can I replace my resume?
Yes. If you need to update your resume before taking the interview, you can upload a new version from your skillsheet page. The new resume will be used to generate your interview questions.
What if the resume parser misses something?
The parser handles most standard resume formats well, but if you notice missing information, try reformatting your resume to use simpler layouts and re-uploading it.
